This book I'm trying to read, Heart of Darkness...and my roommate gabbing away on her phone about Glee. -_-
get yourself some nox arcana or some Arcana to drown out the levels of stupid as you read
Generally, I read with music on...Apocalyptica mostly. But for some reason, everything is distracting me from this book. I need complete silence. Same thing with my 16 Cent Ren Lit homework, need complete damn silence, which in this dorm house is impossible. But I'll look that up for when I want to read something with music.
And my roommate left the room to watch Glee since I'm the only one with an Ethernet cord.

i dont read much these days... but i was the same. I needed silence because music would generally distract me.
But back in my first design studios we had to go out and sketch buildings and what-not.... and it was the same as reading. I had to concentrate to not get distracted easily. (but silence was impossible outdoors).... it was these type of bands (Neo-classical/Ambient) that would always make the hours fly by; with me anyway. It especially would added to the mysticism of sketching churches and shit (which i loved to do)
Arcana - that song i put up is generally what they've always played. Although they do have some boring albums; the ones i remember liking (more than casually) were: INNER PALE SUN, RASPAIL, & THE LAST EMBRACE.
Dark Sanctuary - they're more of a melody-based band (not so much ambient); and with much more vocal usage than Arcana (usually soprano). the organ is my favorite part of this band.
Before that they were generally more dark ambient-ish....They had a trilogy of albums with a hugeass name that is incredible too.... even sprinkled in some small traces of black metal in the older albums. Those probably wont work for what you're looking for... but they're still top-quality albums. (the songs with growls anyway.... that trilogy still has songs in the same ambient-esque style though)
you'd be losing out if you (atleast) didn't try their whole discography..... IMO
* 1996 Love Poems for Dying Children... Act I * 1997 Love Poems for Dying Children... Act II: The Garden Of Crystalline Dreams * 2000 Love Poems for Dying Children... Act III: Winter and the Broken Angel * 2004 Eclipse * 2007 The Hallowing
Although... i dont remember ever listening to "Eclipse" though
There's also Dargaard, Wongraven, Elend, and Nox Arcana (already mentioned).
Nox Arcana have, at least, 15 albums.... i recommend you get them all.
No joke.... they're mostly halloween-y......although its not their gimmick or anything... thats their general ambiance. most are concept albums meant to pay homage to Edgar Allen Poe, Lovecraft, Grimm bros. and im sure others. It's just a band im sure you'd like cause you'd have something to mentally tie the songs to. They also have a couple of x-mas albums... heh.
I was listening to some Nox Arcana while reading. Thanks so much. I'll download all of that once I have a chance, probably won't have another spare moment till Thursday night.
