oh good god i just went to scratch my ear and i didnt know i had a small pimple in it hurt like hell when i accidently scratched it having a pimple in your ear is like the worst thing ever
Just a heads up, this is kind of a sad story, although it gets better, but in the end still kinda sad.
So this morning I went downstairs to get something to drink and noticed that our 16yo dog wasn't in his normal sleeping spot on the couch. What really worried me was that I couldn't hear him walking around anywhere either as he never sits/lays down anywhere else unless we put him on the couch. I walked around and eventually found that he had gotten himself trapped laying behind some boxes in our front room (my sister's friend in staying with us for the time being and had moved her stuff in the front room) with his head under part of this recliner-sized chair we have in there. At first glance I could have sworn he was dead but upon a closer look I noticed he was at least still breathing.
He didn't really move as I picked him up and didn't make any attempt to stand either. I picked him up and put him on his normal spot and figured I'd watch over him to make sure he'd be comfortable. A couple hours pass and I notice him lift his head up to try and get up, so I place him on the floor and he stood for a few seconds before falling over. I took him outside to let him walk around for a bit and he seemed to at least be doing better than earlier. I just went downstairs and found him walking around outside and he's doing considerably better than this morning.
I'm not depressed or anything, as I realize he's lived quite a lengthy life, but it was really scary to think for a split second that he had passed away while trapped in very uncomfortable position. Thankfully he's rested now and doing better, so we'll see where it goes from here. It's quite relieving to know that he'll at least be comfortable though.
nah, not really you said he got into an uncomfortable position because of everything around, yes? if they things were organized, he wouldnt be uncomfortable things in a house should be dog-safe, especially when its in old age and not the best at getting around
I can safely and honestly tell you that he would have gotten himself in these kinds of predicaments regardless of how "dog-safe" we try to make it. He's gotten very weak over the years, and has a lot of trouble getting up on his own.
Again, I understand why you feel the way you do about this, but your assertions are based on only 2 posts I've made. I could have gone into greater detail, but figured that my post was already reaching "tldr" length. It's not anyone's fault including the dog's, it's just what happens when you have old animals as I'm sure you're well aware of.
I'm glad that you make point that people do their best to care for their animals, as I'm someone who puts a lot of importance in it as well, but this issue can't simply be cured by saying "well your stupid sister's friend needs to be organized" or "just make it dog-safe". I'm not attacking you here, but I don't appreciate being talked down to like I don't understand the importance of animal/pet safety. To be the most outspoken person about it doesn't necessarily make one the only knowledgeable person on the issue.

I understand that you're very passionate about animals, but this kind of reaction is completely unwarranted.
