Rage Against The Machine and Conor Oberst have announced plans to play a benefit concert in Los Angeles in protest over Arizona's controversial immigration laws.
The acts are part of a coalition of bands, also including Sonic Youth, Massive Attack, Kanye West and Serj Tankian, who say they will not play any gigs in the state until the bill, called SB 1070, is amended.
The bill allows police in Arizona to challenge anybody they suspect of being an illegal immigrant to prove their status officially. Failure to do so will result in arrest.
Named The Sound Strike, the protest group has already set up a petition at Thesoundstrike.net – the concert is to be staged at the Hollywood Palladium on July 23, reports the LA Times.
The gig will be Rage's first show in their hometown in 10 years.
