"WHEN MEDICAL SCIENCE GETS TO THE POINT WHERE PEOPLE DONT NEED TO DIE ANY MORE. IT WILL ONLY BE PEOPLE WITH MONEY THAT GET TO UTILIZE THESE SERVICES THERE FOR MONEY MAY VERY POSSIBLE BE ABLE TO SAVE LOVED ONES FROM DEATH. HOW IS THAT FOR HAPPINESS?"
The last thing I would ever, ever want would be to live forever. Seriously, dying really doesn't scare me at all, but the idea of living forever is fucking terrifying.
But on the original question, having money can cause one to be less stressed out about some of the worries that consume a lot of people (being able to buy food, have a nice home, car, etc.) and it can allow you to partake in many activities that make you happy, but I do not think that money alone can equal happiness, at least for me it couldn't.
The more I think about it, it totally depends on the kind of person you are. If I was stupid-ass rich but my friends and girlfriend/wife only liked me for my money, I wouldn't be happy (and I would be able to tell if they were like that). I need friends and family and people who really like/love me just for being me to be truly happy, but I am entirely sure there are people who could be perfectly happy with being rich and just having a bunch of shit.
Now, that's not saying that being rich doesn't contribute in some ways to happiness. I know that if I was rich I would have a shitload of fun, but I would still need people. if I was poor but had people who loved me, I would be stressed out and probably unhappy at times, but I know that just having money wouldn't make me truly happy.
Kind of but not totally. I just refuse to let my entire life be run/fueled by money, I think that (especially in the U.S.) money has become more important than people in the eyes of many (killing someone in order to make money, modern-day slavery, child labor, etc.), and I won't join that crowd. Surely one could say that money is a necessity in the world today, and I am not denying that. I want to have a lot of money, but mostly to relieve many of life's daily stresses that I wish could be solved by means other than money but, I understand that it would be impossible for one person to change that. I know that simply having money will not make ME totally happy.
If you have family and friends and cool stuff to do and are happy with that, then you make money then you're still happy. unless money ruins you and everyone leaves you which can happen

"Catcher in the Rye was boring"
Missed the point of the book...
