To me, the raw production sounds good (however, there is of course a point where it gets a bit too much, i.e. Walknut, some early Niflheim), because it creates an atmosphere, which gives a better feeling to the music.
I understand where your coming from but i just find it hard to understand how low production value adds to the atmosphere of a song. im not one for crazy high production and over polished music but i still think there is a certain level of musical production you need to obtain in order to be able to call it good music

Well, I disagree. If the production was polished, the actual music wouldn't be any different. Just the sound quality, and an effects put on that music.

Yes, of course. That's why I said, the production should match the music. The production can be toyed with and vary so much, there's so much you can do with it, so that it matches the ideal sound that the musician wanted.
