Earlier this week we learned some tantalizing details about an upcoming film. According to IMDb message board posters, a red band teaser trailer for David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo had been showing in international theaters, giving audiences their first glimpse at the English language adaptation. Naturally it was only a matter of time until the trailer hit the web and today it has.
Starring Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer and many, many more, the film follows a Swedish journalist named Mikael Blomkvist as he attempts to solve a 42 year old case: the disappearance of Harriet Vanger. Working with a punk hacker named Lisbeth Salander, Blomkvist slowly pulls back the layers, but what he finds is more horrifying than he can imagine.
The trailer won't be around long, so be sure to watch it as many times as possible. Check it out below.
I have two words to sum up that trailer: Holy. Shit. Taking advantage of the fact that the film is based on an international best seller and has already gotten a foreign-language adaptation, this teaser is completely lacking in story, but makes up for it entirely by establishing tone. The music - which is a remix of "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin made by Trent Reznor featuring the vocals of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Karen O - is brilliant and the cuts are quick enough that it's disorienting while also long enough that you can grasp what's going on. Fincher did it last year with the first trailers for The Social Network and now he's done it again: I'm are sufficiently teased.
The first domestic trailer (which will sadly be green band) is scheduled to hit the web this week, so be sure to check back for that. Until then, just keep hitting play and enjoying this magnificent example of movie advertising.
