Free-agent outfielder B.J. Upton has agreed to a five-year deal worth $75.25 million with the Atlanta Braves, pending a physical, a baseball source told ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick on Wednesday.
Upton has spent his entire eight-year career with the Tampa Bay Rays. He batted .246 with 28 home runs, 78 RBIs and 31 stolen bases last season. He's averaged .255, 20 homers, 75 RBIs and 39 steals per season.
i hope the braves can figure out a way to either trade for denard span or sign shane victorino to a short-term contract to lead off and play left field. i don't want any part of cody ross, especially at 3 years. i think span and some bench/bullpen depth would be worthy of parting with julio teheran, who's been pitching like shit in the winter leagues. i'm starting to wish they'd sold high on this dude 2 years ago when he was the #2 prospect in baseball ~X(
