Hipster hop is what it is. Pretty much another word for Alternative Hip Hop. Lots of white kids that skateboard listen to it and think it's the greatest thing ever. Wouldn't even had heard of Danny Brown if my roommate last year didn't constantly play his music. Not saying he's bad...Just not the best.
I don't really see Danny Brown that way. Dude is hell of a lyricist and is super eclectic in his writing. I'd argue he's one of the best MCs to come up in recent history. Better than every trap rap artist, that's for sure.
Kendrick's really good too. good kid, m.A.A.d city is a great album. I just a feel a dude like Danny Brown covers more ground and can do different styles.
Primarily I listen to Cypress Hill, Wu Tang, Public Enemy, Biggie, basically the "classic" stuff, I'm not into the huff and puff "gansgta" bullshit that is incorporated In some of today's rap.
Not saying there's no good modern rap, there is, just nothing a good as the classics.
L0l plz hang yourself. Do you have any clue how completely dead "Gangsta Rap" is? This ain't 2003 moron.
Danny Brown's XXX is the best hip-hop album/mixtape from this decade. Period.
Get the fuck out plz.
Nah. You can't convince me other wise.
Look. I like Danny. He's dope as fuck. But the best of the fucking DECADE? You're giving that title to a fucking mixtape? Dawg... Not even the top 10 of the decade.
Of this current decade, as in as of 2010. And I know I'm new to hip-hop. But if I'm getting 55 minutes of excellent material, I don't get why it matters if it's considered a mixtape or an album. Most of what brings current hip-hop artists to our attention is mixtapes, not debut albums.
That's pretty much true, and if I'm making a fool of myself by not seeing a huge difference between a mixtape and legit album, I'd like like to know why. Can you explain the fundamental difference? Because honestly, if a dudes are putting out collections of music that are an hour long, and the only thing keeping it from being an album is that fact that it's free, I don't really see why it'd be outrageous to equate the two.
Well then that's just a matter of opinion. I know I haven't heard as many hip-hop records from the past 4 years as I have metal, but from those that I have, the one that has stuck to me the most is XXX. There's just so much variety and Danny is a master of his craft.
