hey arlo, im gonna be serious here with you because i noticed you flagged my post and i wanna clear the air for once. idk why you flagged my post nor do i really care that much but i feel if you knew the truth you wouldn't care about what i said. anyway, first off, i have no problem with making jokes at my own expense. it really doesn't bother me. i wasn't complaining, feeling sorry for myself, or looking for pity or anything like that. i say a lot of dumb shit on here just for shits and giggles. there is no deeper meaning to it. i was just trying to make nola laugh to cheer him up. this may not change your opinion about me and that's fine but i felt like i needed to set things straight.
I want to clear the air here... I flagged this post as abuse only because there was no 'fag' tag.
EQUALITY UNDER ATTACK: A CALL TO ACTION Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a longtime supporter of Hostage Calm and marriage equality was fired from his job at the Nashville music venue, Rocketown, for wearing his “I Support Same-Sex Marriage” shirt to work. A friend from Nashville contacted me about the situation and told me of Wes Breedwell, this seven-year employee of Rocketown who now finds himself the victim of discrimination. We called this brave man to hear his story, demonstrate our support, and figure out how we can help.
What I heard from him was a long pattern of discrimination against him for not being Christian and for supporting marriage equality. Rocketown is a Christian-owned non-profit community center and venue: not a church. And yet, over the seven years he has worked there, he’s been denied opportunities for advancement and salary based on his non-Christian beliefs. Today, Rocketown fired him for wearing this shirt commemorating equality (along with his non-Christian activity on social media pages). Wes emphasized that employees routinely wear band shirts at Rocketown. So why did this shirt cause such a problem?
It’s important to note that they didn’t fire him for wearing A SHIRT. They fired him because of what that shirt stands for. For what that shirt threatens.
This shirt represents an idea that all people have the right to live their lives without being told who to love and whose love is more valuable. It represents equality under the law. It represents the freedom to choose.
So how could a youth center not support such a vital, foundational understanding of human freedom and equality as part of their social mission? Hostage Calm has played Rocketown multiple times. In my prior visits, I was under the impression that Rocketown was a positive force in this Nashville community: they had a music venue, skatepark, and other outlets for Nashville youth. But a youth center and music venue cannot be a positive force in the community if it degrades and belittles the value of some of our people based on sexual orientation or gender identity. That is the force that tears communities apart, not that enriches them.
I originally planned to make a post today about Dr. King, the status of his Dream, and how we can all work together to realize equality in modern America. This unfortunate event demonstrates that Dr. King’s Dream is still under threat, and that the struggle of the LGBT community for equal standing under the law is a Civil Rights issue of our time.
Hostage Calm promises to do everything in its power to raise awareness and challenge this injustice in Nashville. We will certainly never play Rocketown again. We’ll continue to post more information as Wes and H.C. take further action. For now, you can help by reposting his story to shine a light on this injustice, and by boycotting the venue. Most of all, please send all your support to Wes Breedwell and his fight for justice.
I did my discussion board post for my Women's Studies course this week, fulfilling all of the requirements for it, in addition to responding to two other classmates' posts when I only had to do one. I checked my grade on it, and I only received an 8/10. Not happy but mainly because the instructor flat out closed the forum/section, so now I can't see why I was marked down. I sent her an email, but I'm definitely not happy about this.
So the bitch finally emails me back as a group response, stating:
"Grading Rubric for Discussion Boards
10/9 - Did an outstanding post, said something innovative and insightful, took a clear stand and made a case for why you took that stand, incorporated class materials appropriately; also did respond to another student post
8/7 - Did a good post. Met the minimum word requirement, made an argument and provided some support but not as much as the "plus" posts, may have forgotten to include the reaction or a response to another student
6 and below - Post was weak, did not meet minimum word requirement, was disorganized; maybe didn’t address all questions posed; or maybe didn’t respond to another student
0 - Did not post"
The post was to be between 250 and 350 words. Mine was 323. I incorporated material discussed in class, cited examples I responded to TWO posts rather than the required ONE
And she couldn't even give me a straight response as to why I was marked down 20%. Not pleased about this, so I'm going to talk with her tomorrow...
When a prof assigns homework in a book that wasn't listed on the University bookstore booklist due two days after the class starts and she only emails you the day before classes start. We need more time to get the books damn it!
I seriously hate ticket scalpers, some friends and I wanted to go see the band Underoath in st pete on Saturday because it is their "farewell" show, this band has been very influential and I know it will be an intense show, but of course tickets sold out very quickly and we weren't able to get one, but I found some people who said they "have extra tickets" for sale, I ask them how much they want and they said $500 for 4 tickets or $150 each, even though the tickets were like $26 or something originally, they are keeping people who want to go and enjoy this event because they feel the need to rip people off and make an extra buck, so yeah, i hate ticket scalpers.
And yes i realize we are partially at fault for waiting to get tickets, oh well

Had a mean dump
Reached over to grab toilet paper
Find that the big circular toilet paper dispenser has no paper left
And yes i realize we are partially at fault for waiting to get tickets, oh well
