Though both male and female dobsonflies have sharp mandibles, those of an adult male dobsonfly are actually so big – up to 1 inch (25 mm) – that they are unable to harm humans, as they have such poor leverage that they are incapable of breaking the skin. I waited until 4 days before to ask my friend if he was going. Decided he wasn't today. I was fine with going by myself, I just really didn't want to waste gas by driving only myself (hope I worded that right)
Man, I'm surprised I don't have a bunch of fucked up insects by me. Just a couple blocks down is basically all forest and trees, which leads to a lot of coyotes and deer, but no crazy insects from what I've seen.
