NFL Bans Four Players In New Orleans Saints Bounty Roles
The NFL suspended four players Wednesday for their roles in the New Orleans Saints' bounty system, including linebacker Jonathan Vilma for the entire 2012 season.
In addition to Vilma, defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove (now with the Green Bay Packers) was suspended eight games, defensive Will Smith four games and linebacker Scott Fujita (now with the Cleveland Browns) three games.
All of the suspensions are without pay.
All four player suspensions will be appealed, according to NFL source who told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, "get ready for a massive multiple legal battle over this on several fronts."
The appeals will be heard by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

R.I.P..... lost a good one today. He was always considered a hero here in San Diego; not just by what he did with the chargers but his vast charity and work with our local communities. A very sad day for SD indeed.
i was listening to an attorney on the radio last week that said that the nfl is in a lot of trouble right now over concussions. according to him, there is an outside possibility that the league could be shut down. the reason it was being discussed was the bounty issue with the saints. his argument was that if they really do end up having civil suits filed based on the bounty issue, there is a real possibility that it could open a pandora's box of other legal issues regarding the ongoing mental health of league players. if they do find out that seau had trauma to his brain from concussions, things could get interesting. it's one thing for anonymous players to deal with it, but the more you see high-profile players suffering, the more likely it is that someone puts their foot down.
its kind of the same stuff that happens to wrestlers... really sad stuff
and now this...
ATLANTA — More than 100 former NFL players have filed a federal lawsuit in Atlanta claiming that pro football didn’t properly protect its players from concussions.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include former Atlanta Falcon Jamal Anderson, ex-Georgia star Lindsey Scott and veteran quarterback Don Majkowski.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday in federal court in Georgia, claims the league failed to protect NFL players from brain injuries linked to football-related concussions.
They are among more than 1,000 former NFL players suing the league. The cases say not enough was done to inform players about the dangers of concussions in the past, and not enough is done to take care of them today.
The league has said any allegation that the league intentionally sought to mislead players is without merit.
yeah. just sounds like more former nfl players are running low on cash. that'd almost be like me suing tabacco companies for getting a disease i've never heard of that was caused by smoking.
