I'm an engineer for a subcontractor and our clients are mostly aerospace/aeronautical but we get some automotive work as well. One of the things I like about it is the opportunity to work with multiple companies.
This was like my 6th time seeing Anthrax but easily the best. Holy shit, I was blown away. Joey legit just gets better with age. And OMG THEY PLAYED FUCKING ONLY. My dudes, I felt straight childlike excitement. That's like Sabbath going out with Ozzy and them playing Heaven & Hell for those that don't know the tune. Jesus, everyone was on fire and I made out like a fucking bandit. Caught 4 originally but this 58 year old dude helped me start the pit for Only and he got knocked around pretty bad so before we left I opened up my hand and let him take his (no pun intended) pick.

We are never playing at this venue ever again. Fuck the promoter too.
So we know the bar owner/promoter guy. He used to own another bar that we played at a couple times, we had relatively good experiences there. That bar burned down, and he now has this bar. We were expecting a similar experience given our past with his last bar.
Prior to the show owner/promoter says "hard cut off at 11 because he has a neighbor that complains", ok no problem. Only two bands, starts at 8, whatever. And "bring your own mics and cables", also no problem, post-covid bringing your own mics is pretty normal.
Anyways, I get there, and the place is tiny, doesnt even have a stage. No worries we've played small shows before. But Im looking at the equipment, and their PA is literally just a 6 channel mixer, and two speakers.
Dude arrives, I say "hi", and he doesnt say a word to me. So I walk in and am like "hey Im playing tonight just trying to figure out whats going on". He then explains that "oh yea just decide whos going first between the bands, there's no sound guy, we're in charge of our own sound - but also dont play too loud because his neighbor will complain"
Im like "you do know this is a metal show right? Its going to be loud". And hes like "yea, just try and be reasonable" Ok whatever
So Im already irritated that there's no sound guy, and we had to run our own sound for the show.
On top of that it was a free show, he didnt pay us, AND HE DIDNT EVEN GIVE US FREE OR DISCOUNTED DRINKS OR FOOD.
On top of that, he sat in the corner on his phone all night, never saying a word to use except twice to TELL US TO TURN DOWN.
We brought the entire crowd too, he did no promotion, and had no outside people come in - so we didnt even make any new fans. It was all friends and family we brought. So he got a bunch of people buying beer all night, and we netted NOTHING.
So TLDR: Dude booked a METAL SHOW, and complained about how loud was. Dude had us bring all our own gear, and run our own sound, and I essentially ran the entire show, for no pay, and he didnt even discount our drinks or food, and didnt help bring outside people in to help us out at all. He just didnt give a shit.
We literally did all the work for him and got nothing in return.
OH YEA, and he didn't relay any of this to the other band that played, so they had to use all my mics and cables, and I had to run the PA for them too.
If I wasn't there with all my equipment, the show wouldn't have happened.
