Hipsters are super gay for trash rap nowadays afaic. It's like Juicy J and Three Six getting all this hipster throat. Irony is a dead scene. Everybody falling for it looks like a dweeb. I get Lil B as a character, but all I remember of his music was "Suck my dick, bitch" over and over. He's nothing groundbreaking. He's Flavor Flav. I know liking him gets tasty bitches ears though, so I fuck with it. He's nothing compared to some of the other shit happening right now, like Odd Future or Run the Jewels. Afaic if you're just counting his character, ODB was better. ODB was like primal man. If Dirty wanted to get fucked up, he got fucked up. If Dirty wanted some pussy, he fucked. If Dirty wanted something to eat, he ate. Dirty was law at my first apartment. Sometimes it's fun to give in to retardedness. Lil B just isn't my weapon of choice in the given field
to me if you see Lil B as just some sort of ironic thing then you haven't gone deep enough. I"m not gonna sit here and act like I've thought highly about Lil B since day one, I thought he was bad the first time i heard it to, especially when I didn't even like hip-hop in the first place. and some of his music for me is just for fun. I'm not gonna sit here and listen to the song "Ima Eat Her Ass" and say it's serious. It's fun. But he has serious work. Is it the best at rapping? No. But he's being serious and it's always 100% raw, speaking his mind directly, no filters. He's not doing this shit for a check or because he saw an opportunity to cash in or some shit. He's literally doing this because he wants to speak his mind. And in addition to that, Lil B the character is such a positive figure and I think hip-hop and music in general need that. it's all genuine. I feel like the sincerity of some artists gets lost in his ironic landscape we've created and it's lame because some of these artists are being for real and people aren't seeing it because they're too busy enjoying because some perceive it as whack.
I don't really think you're into him ironically. It's more that his legend is inflated by his hipster fandom. It's almost entirely college based ever since they got him to do that speech at Columbia (or wherever)
I'm not opposed to that argument but to me that's no reason to talk shit. if you're gonna hate somebody because a bunch of young people like it, how does that make you any better than the so called "hipster"? and to me, doing the college lectures at NYU, MIT, etc might have heightened his popularity/legend, that was just one step, and with all the controversy that's been surrounding him since the NBA Playoffs, it's only getting bigger. He's finally getting the recognition he deserves.
that flag literally just proved you're trolling I'm done here
> flags all of my posts
All those songs fucking sucked. His beats are pretty interesting i'll admit. His goal of creating airy, dream like music has been acheived in that regard. But his flow is mediocre and his lyrics while having more depth than a lot of his peers (which isnt saying much tbh) they are presented in a very basic way. Poor wordplay, basic/no rhyming, random unclever rhymes thrown in the middle of a verse, etc.
i understand respecting the dude because he's a positive dude and has a DIY attitude and is chill with fans but if you think those songs represent one of the best dudes in the game right now you're either trolling or you're so busy stroking the ironic college hipster fag dick that you cant see that this shit isnt that good.
I never said he's one of the best spitters. You don't have to be one of the best rappers to make good hip-hop music. I feel like disregarding his grind and ignoring all that he's done and how he's changed hip-hop because he doesn't hold up to standards set by people from decades ago is stupid. It's like the people who say bands like Deafheaven or Agalloch aren't black metal because they're not Burzum or Darkthrone. Hip-hop has changed since then and if we're talking hip-hop today, Lil B is one of the most influential artists in the game with both his music and just being himself. He's pretty much created all the stereotypes of what rappers are now. The last caricature is pretty much Lil B.
nola, ky.
also, duran duran has slaps
Again, all your defending of Lil B boils down to his image and other unimportant shit, not his music.
Also, are you implying good lyrics and clever wordplay are no longer the standard in hip hop if so fuck the entire genre you faggot college hipsters can have it
What's that? I can't see your posts. I'll just bump Lil B music, have fun, and bask in his positive message and unconditional love for everybody. Something we should all strive for. thank you based god.
