Finally finished 'Montage of Heck'. Kinda feel the same about it as I do most other Cobain stuff in that there was a lot left out. Specifically Tobi Vail, the girl he wrote 'Nevermind' to impress and who's friend titled 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. Still no Grohl interview. No Buzz or Dale, Dylan Carlson or Mark Lanegan either. Seems like all these years later somebody would've been able to get the comprehensive story. I read 3 books on Cobain and they all told a different story and portrayed people in different lights.
I mean it had a lot of stuff he wrote himself.. Kinda hard to twist that..
It's not how they're twisting it. It's more just the things they leave out. There are only a couple of things in that movie that haven't been covered before. There's just a lot of opinions that really haven't been presented. Nirvana had management, friends, roommates, prior members, etc that haven't been brought up really. It's always the same cast. This one had Novaselic and Cobain's dad and step mom, which was different, but there's just so much that hasn't been covered and there's a lot of contention that Cobain lied about or exaggerated things that happened to him that it would be nice if they used something aside from his journals and his mom and Courtney's usually conflicting versions.
