How was it? I've read that it's quite a bit different than the Tarantino version
It was awesome. There's basically nothing the same between the two other than they're westerns, and the character's name is Django. I actually liked the original better. Django is such a badass.
The actor from the original is in a scene in the Tarantino version. He's the guy at the bar in Candie's house where Django says "The D is silent". He replies "I know."
There are supposedly a shit ton of unoffcial sequels, remakes, and spin-offs for the original Django. There is only one official sequel. I think Tarantino was continuing that tradition.
