I hope I don’t have to make a decision like that when my kids are older. Luckily the wife wanted to come to Sonic temple this year so I’m looking forward to that
I know when it comes to RotR/ST you swallow the cock and balls, and reach around and poke a finger in the ass for them, but it just doesn't work for me. The line up is mostly bloated imo. ST is a huge roster with 2-3 bands I really want to see (which I will still get at COA if I go) and a handful I would enjoy seeing again. It's way overpriced, over populated, in a shit location and the off site camping sucks. That's actually the biggest deal breaker for me is the shit camp set up. I really like 72 hour ticket pricing and being able to go back and forth from the show to camp throughout the day. I like grilling my own food back at camp, and old man naps if I want them. Festival camping > 3/4 of all festival line ups anyway.
Has she ever been to RotR or another festival before or is this her first?

She went in 2012 and hated it. But she had also had her wisdom teeth out like the Monday before and was still feeling it. There also wasn’t a ton of bands she wanted to see. This time around nearly every band she has mentioned wanting to see lately is on the lineup.
Ill disagree with it being over priced. Just for the two big headliners I would be paying the price I paid for the weekend plus I get a plethora of bands I love. I can take or leave camping being able to leave and come back has never been a big deal for me because there really isn’t enough of a time gap that I’m like hey let’s run back to the tent to rest. By the time I would get there I’d be turning around and coming back.
You tryin to be a hero fool? You wanna see badass mother fucker?! I'll show ya a badass!!!
The price you paid isn't nearly what anyone else would have to pay to cop a ticket now... or even one minute after they went on sale. What percentage of people got their tickets for the Ape price? Had I been able to secure level one pricing I might have been on board. It's fantastic you got a great deal on your tickets but let's not pretend that's the average price most people have to pay either. They are currently at about $350 a piece right now. I pay for 5-6 people to go to RUSA. $250 for 4 people to camp, so I would need 2 sites... that hasn't even touched food or drinks because you can go back and forth... that's around 2k for the weekend and I haven't even bought a poster yet.
Completely honest I would pay the $350 for Sonic Temple vs any of the other festivals at a lower price that have been announced. It’s the whole you get what you pay for thing. I’m getting several bands that are favorites. And many others I really like and or haven’t seen before. Most of the other lines ups there are a few bands here and there I like and maybe one headliner in that group that I’m into. Sonic temple is stacked for me.
Foo fighters in Cincy $125 soad hasn’t been here in a while but I know their pit tickets were around $100 ghost cost be $75
thats $300 right there.
Then there are about another 20 bands I could mention. The value is there for me. I’m not there for a cheap party I’m there to see bands I like and discover some new ones.
Obviously not everyone is going to feel the same as me but the cost is easily justifiable even with me leaving before disturbed lol

It's rare that I go to a festival just to party. NI was a rare occurrence. Those days are mostly behind me. It's become a family thing now. I go not to party, but to attempt to pass on my love of live music down to the younger generations and share those experiences with them. It's not so bad solo, but for anyone trying to bring a family with, at $350 a person, plus food, drink and lodging on top still, ST is terribly overpriced.
As for COA, it's $100 cheaper and comes with Tool. I don't hate them but I also don't even really listen to Foo so that's pure win in my book. When the wife saw the RUSA line up, she was excited about it for her but said "it probably sucks for you but at least they have Clutch." (God I love that woman) so she at least understands and doesn't seem to care if I go now (she was being a little pissy about it earlier due to the timing right before graduation)

This is some "I was there that day" shit.
