It’s a new day for one of the hit-making bands of the 1990s, as the classic lineup of Days of the New has reunited for a series of summer shows.
The band broke on the scene in 1997 with their platinum-selling self-titled debut. But shortly after the band’s 1998 tour with Metallica and Jerry Cantrell, bassist Jesse Vest, guitarist Todd Whitener and drummer Matt Taul split, leaving frontman Travis Meeks to continue with new musicians under the Days of the New moniker, while the exiting trio went on to found Tantric.
These new dates signify the first shows the foursome have played together since October 1998, making it just shy of 16 years since they last took the stage as a band. The trek, which they’re dubbing the ‘Full Circle’ tour, kicks off Friday, June 27, at the Home Bar in Arlington Heights, Ill.
The band’s standout debut disc yielded the radio favorites ‘Touch, Peel and Stand,’ ‘The Down Town’ and ‘Shelf in the Room,’ with ‘Touch, Peel and Stand’ spending 17 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Chart, setting a record for the longest run on that chart at the time.
Vest says of the reunion, “I’ve experienced plenty of success in other projects, but nothing ever felt like Days did. This band was never easy, but the music was always magical.” Meeks adds, “There will be some very exciting and different things planned for each show.”
And yes, for those wondering, the band is working on an EP with new material that will surface this fall, with some of the tracks spilling over into the band’s summer tour dates. See the full itinerary below.
