Yes it was at the time. Before us, Texas, Tech,...and unfortunately Baylor (only because of our governor at the time) got too big and joined the newly formed Big XII.
EDIT: Forgot to mention Arkansas leaving for the SEC in 1991
It was on a decline towards the end, but that does not take away from the fact that it used to be a major conference before it was disbanded.

Really? Texas was the only major school?
Aside from A&M (obviously...unless you're retarded like Rex), you're looking past SMU who was a powerhouse back in the day and up until the 80's. Houston in the later years with Andre Ware and company. TCU towards the end weren't anything to brag about but were a solid team prior. Baylor had their shining moments too.

From 1987 up until the 2007 season, they had one winning season. A lot of those losses were a result of the death penalty. And I said they were a powerhouse back in the day, not just during the Pony Express years. Not a traditional power obviously, but every now and then.

Just stop, Rex.
If you include SMU division I-a titles all these teams have a total of 7 national championships...4 less then michigan. Major powerhouse =D>
