The Trayvon Martin incident became national after petitions began to be posted on change.org. Apple changed their policies regarding workers in China, after large amounts of pressure, partially from change.org. Hell, there even was a petition for stopping the late closing hours at my university, and it worked...kinda.
I think there's some things worth it, but I don't really participate much.
you say due to change.org, now i know a well managed site can make a difference but was it speciffically the petitions that actually caused that chain of events?
i just find it hard to believe that an internet petition can be taken so seriously, how do they test the signatures legitimacy? for instance how do we know someone didnt just set up the coding to put peoples names in randomly or set up bot names and shit like that.. this interests me alot i should do some research

I don't think they do, it's more of a gauging tool, it's not about having an ultimately awesome petition, it's about showing support.
I'm pretty sure they have safeguards in there to stop against bots, etc. though.
i have a close friend who was molested by her father, who was an mp. when he left the military, all records of what he had done were sealed. he is in prison now because he attempted to strangle his second wife.

I have an ex gf whose MP father told his best friend to go rape his daughter. The friend did, and when my ex told her father that his friend violently raped her, he laughed and said "lol. Yeah I know. I told him to do it". That's the day she ran away from home.

well that's fucked up. i don't believe that all the cases that come through are legit, without phyiscal evidence of the attack there is no proof, makes someone wonder if it truly is a rape or later down the road chic decided that she didn't like him so much or got pissd off and next thing you know they are yelling rape and unfortunately for those guys in this boat they are usually charged for something that was actually consentual

the girls who do this fuck it up for the women who actually got raped. the boy who cried wolf effect.
they are inadmissible in court though. My Idea would be an automatic, no chance of parole, 10 years in prison for any women found to be using rape accusations as weapon to ruin someones life.
This discussion made me think about a somewhat related subject I was having a conversation with co workers about.
Women and teenagers have way too much power some times. I always thought it would be cool to be a history teacher but then I think why would I put myself at risk with little reward. What I am talking about is when I was in high school these kids were little shits especially the girls that would get butthurt. Just when I was in school for four years I saw two male teachers fired just because a female student made up something about them because they didn't like them. Say you give a student a bad grade or just happen to piss them off somehow, you know by doing your job. If the student were to say anything true or not that relates to you and the student in a sexual manner you're gone and your name is mudd in the field you got a degree in.
You tryin to be a hero fool? You wanna see badass mother fucker?! I'll show ya a badass!!!

I'm no change.org lover myself, but I think it's a pretty interesting site that can contribute.
i always get updates from there when they change laws
