Show was awesome, people that went to both in my group liked it better than Mayhem. As soon as we walked in we ran into an 8 foot tall stilt walker in a horned goats mask, they were maybe a dozen of them running arounf all over the place. Awesome touch. For the main stage they were even jumping around behind the security at the rail. The rope dancers I posted a pic of were in the pyro area, also a cool touch. When it started getting dark, the pyro area kept doing short displays, then later they made heavy use of it during Slipknots set. The blasts of heat were pretty intense, but a big portion of the crowd was hanging out there for Slipknot due to heavy rain during Deftones. We cut the front of the line for the Slipknot museum, cool but not spectacular. I did ask a security guard if I could get a pic behind Clowns drums, and he said yes, sor I immediately jumped on top of it, rocking it back and forth and posing for pics. The guard said "I didn't mean like that, get down!" I yelled back at him "Its ok, I've seen how they use em, I'll be careful" The security dude instantly got a super pissed look on his face, like I just slapped him and called him mom a cunt or something, and somebody else in line yells out "kick his ass!" So I rocked it back as hard as I could and vaulted over the front of it. I wanted to yell tada! as I landed but I figured I had already pushed my luck enough. The coolest free swag I got was a free engraved zippo from a smokers lounge. The junkyard car drum circle seemed like a great place to hang out if your a big fan of migraine headaches. You can definitely see how fucking happy Randy was to be doing his thing again, I've seen them a few times and Randy was that animated or talkative on stage before.
I only wish I would have taken a few more days off for more camping, the campgrounds were limped out but we didn't have enough time to take advantage of any of it. They had a pool, water slides, mini golf, and tubing on the river (approx 3 1/2 hours a trip) that were all included with our camping package. Definitely doing this again next year.
And this year had the longest set times for side stage bands due to the Jager and Sumerian stages going at the same time. I know at my date Whitechapel got 30 mins, TDWP and AILD got 35 mins, and Anthrax got 40 mins.
