http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W91Iq0jIz20PHOENIX - A suspect on the run from police leaps from roof to roof, and as is the case with most police chases, this doesn't end well for him.
This all happened near 16th Street and Roosevelt and it was apparently about candy.
Police say the suspect was part of a group of six accused of stealing hundreds of dollars worth of sweets from nearby grocery stores.
Police pulled over a vehicle containing the 6 teenage suspects. As officers were interviewing them, one took off.
Police pursued the suspect into a neighborhood and he climbed onto a roof to get away.
"We gave him several opportunities to come down..not only did he refuse, he continued to try to escape by leaping from house to house to house," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Timothy Arendt.
Officers cautiously followed him as he ran from roof to roof the entire time, not knowing what to expect. After a few minutes, they brought out a ladder and pepper sprayed him. Seconds later he came down and tried to flee the scene, but ran into a police sport utility vehicle which was parked.
Since the suspect is a juvenile, we can't show you his face or say his name, but he has a criminal history.
"The longer this guy stayed on the roof, the longer he could have been hurt or an officer could have been hurt going up there trying to arrest him," said Arendt.
Police say the teen is likely going to be charged with criminal trespassing for jumping from roof to roof and running from officers.
