Although my comments are going to be negative, don't take this to mean I hate the album.
So for over a decade I've always fought people when they would say that Staind was Nu Metal. I was like "How the fuck do you figure!?! because they came out around the same time that Nu Metal was big and toured with some Nu Metal bands? Bullshit! there is not one musical aspect of their tunes that has anything in common with Nu Metal." I've honestly almost religiously fought this battle.
This new self titled album, after the first listen there were two songs that I thought "Wow... this song sounds like something Linkin Park would have made" Those two songs basically discredit my whole decade worth of fighting for them to not be called Nu Metal. fuckers. I guess it is a good thing I dont hate Linkin Park.
Another one of their songs on the new album borrowed one of their previous rifs from Break the Cycle. Yes they tweeked it and it wasnt exactly the same but close enough for me to notice. I don't know what the industry thinks of recycling your shit, but it seems like if you are going to recycle shit then maybe you shouldnt recycle anything off your most commercially successful album?
Overall, after first listen I like it. Not album of the year, but one that I think I will be enjoying for years
I dl'd it, but never got around to putting it on my ipod to listen.
it's lulzy, rah rah merrcan bullshit. it makes his dumpy, emotional metal guy schtick even sillier. kinda like the alien lead singer from mudvayne going shit-kickin' texan with hellyeah.
I think I heard Fred Durst's voice in that song "Wannabe". Not a big fan of that song, but I like what I've heard so far.
That was Snoop Dogg <_>
Wannabe is the only song on this album that I don't care for. I like/love everything else. Eyes Wide Open, Not Again, Paper Wings, and Now are my favorites.

But "something to remind you" and "not again" are quality.
