Probably, but the main issue is that the sound comes from the wood. It can't go beyond looking/feeling like it.

Would the strings really work like strings though? I mean it can look and carve them down...but the material probably wouldn't work the same.

well the body could just be made out of the stuff, with a working tuning pegs, and use real strings.

You guys pretty much said it already, but the only problem is that it only copies to shell or exterior of an item.
