when i saw mastodon at the 930 club (one of the first stops for Crack the Skye), the crowd went nuts the entire show. we all def weren't just standing around
Because Deathcore fans are bunch of simpletons who are easily entertained. Also, static crowd =/= bad show. Some of the best concerts I've gone to had little to no movement in the crowd. Mastodon, Sleep, Symphony X, Agalloch. For me a good show is the band playing well, not people going ape shit.

Well when I saw them, they did not play good. In fact, I couldn't tell one song from the next. It was a huge mess and they should be ashamed.
Breakdowns are good when they're not used more often than actuall riffs. I'll admit it, a breakdown can be nice, but when used right. For example, the breakdown in Turn Soonest To The Sea by Protest the Hero is delicious. Same with the one in Decade of Statues by BTBAM.

if youve only seen them at mayhem 08, that explains it

I'm guessing this was at Mayhem, because I remember it being some what like that for me too. I still liked it though, seeing as how that set at Mayhem turned me onto them, but I wouldn't blame for someone for not enjoying that set. If you see them in a club, it's much better. But if you're looking for crazy pits and tons of crowd interaction, maybe you won't. That's not to say there are no pits though, because there have been pits at every Mastodon club show I've gone to.
No, I think it's actually turned into a legit convo. When it's just *insert band here* > Mastodon, it's stupid but I feel this has evolved into a friendly talk.
I agree with everything Ed said about Mastodon. I am not a fan of deathcore or SS, I just think Mastodon shows are boring. I can get into them on album, bit dont waste your money on Mastodon tickets people. You might as well just stand in your living room, face the wall, and put the CD on, thats the same as seeing them live.
