30 Rock's Tina Fey, NBC Apologize for Tracy Morgan's Anti-Gay Comments
By Natalie Abrams

NBC and 30 Rock's Tina Fey are apologizing for the recent anti-gay comments Tracy Morgan made during a stand-up show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

During a June 3 show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, Morgan went on a homophobic rant during which he said he would "pull out a knife and stab" his son if he were gay.

Tracy Morgan apologizes for homophobic rant: "I'm not a hateful person"

"We will always recognize an artist's freedom to express him or herself, but not when reckless things are said no matter what the context," NBC's entertainment chief Robert Greenblatt said. "Unfortunately, Tracy's comments reflect negatively on both 30 Rock and NBC — two very all-inclusive and diverse organizations — and we have made it clear to him that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

After being called upon to apologize by GLAAD and other gay rights groups, Morgan released a statement insisting he is "not a hateful person," apologizing for his comments and noting that he's "an equal opportunity jokester."

"I speak for NBC and myself personally when I say we do not condone hate or violence of any kind and I am pleased to see Tracy Morgan apologizing for recent homophobic remarks in his standup appearance," Greenblatt continued.

While 30 Rock star and creator Fey expressed that "the violent imagery of Tracy's rant was disturbing," she said Morgan's comments don't line up with who she knows him to be. He is "not a hateful man and is generally much too sleepy and self-centered to ever hurt another person," she said.

Fey went on to say that she hopes Morgan's gay and lesbian coworkers on 30 Rock will accept his apology as sincere for "without whom Tracy would not have lines to say, clothes to wear, sets to stand on, scene partners to act with, or a printed-out paycheck from accounting to put in his pocket."

Morgan has also received some support from the stand-up community. On Friday, Chris Rock tweeted: "I dont know about you, but I dont want to live in world where Tracy Morgan cant say foul inappropriate sh--."

GLAAD was quick to respond to Rock from its own Twitter account. "Language about stabbing kids for being gay isn't 'foul.' It's dangerous," the group wrote.
