RANDY BLYTHE'S CASE LEFT LAMB OF GOD 'BANKRUPTED' 24 June, 2013 Staff Writer If you’re a fan of Lamb Of God and you’re still considering whether or not you ought to catch them on their forthcoming Australian tour, we suggest you just go ahead and do it – for their sake.
Speaking with Norfolk, Virginia daily newspaper The Virginian Pilot late last week, the band’s drummer Chris Adler opened up about the financial toll that lead singer Randy Blythe’s manslaughter charges had on the band.
Blythe was charged with intentional bodily harm in June of last year after the death of a 19-year-old fan at a Prague concert in 2010. He spent over a month in a Czech jail, was indicted in December and then finally cleared in March of this year.
While it has been something of a happy ending for the band, they have been forced into a very tough position financially, Adler admits.
“Not only were we not able to generate any income, but we ended up having to pay more than half a million dollars in legal fees,” Adler said.
“It bankrupted the entire band, no money left for any kind of payroll or anything. When Randy was acquitted, everything was on the line at that point. Either it was completely over, or we had a chance to get back out there and pay these bills and get ourselves back on our feet.”
The band play a number of European festival dates before they head back to Australia for a massive tour alongside Meshuggah this September.
