old real estate is dank. idk what they sound like now that matts gone though.
I saw it on the new releases on spotify and gave it a quick listen. Sounded pretty interesting I liked it. Abandoned it 2 songs in for the new mastodon album tho
band is so good. another one who I didnt fully appreciate when I saw them play at psycho. its wankery, but good stoner rock wankery with spacey moments.
definitely trying to do some CTS shit on this track. sounds like The Last Baron lite.
Overall this album is a step in the right direction. Stand-out tracks include Roots Remain, Ancient Kingdom, Andromeda, Scorpion Breath, and Jaguar God. This album is certainly better than OMRTS, and definitely on par with the Hunter, if not better. While these songs are heavier and riffier, it seems like they had to focus to achieve that. I do have respect for the looseness and organic feel the Hunter has.
Hit it on the head in terms of how I feel about the album too, although I found Steambreather to be more of a standout than Scorpion Breath.
Back when it leaked I saw people on the metallica forums gushing about Jaguar God, and I definitely enjoy it, but I don't see it as beeing better than literally any of their other long songs.
I read that Brann and Bill's mothers and Troy's wife all had cancer during the recording. The album is about that fight. Bill's mom died. Kinda gave them a greater purpose. OMRTS was clearly lacking in that area imho
I didn't think Show Yourself was any worse than some of the materiel from OMRTS. Not saying it's a good song, but I don't see what makes it extremely shitty considering the last effort was OMRTS. Obv if you compare it to their other records, it's complete shit tho. I just don't see what makes it so awful in this particular context.
I've erased most of OMRTS from the memory banks because I found almost no value in any of it. Show Yourself reminds me of whatever song it was where it was like "This time everything will be just fine". Jeez that song blew
