Fear Factory has admitted from day one that they have never been a solid live act....Burton's lyrics and fatfuck Dino's riff and song writing were an awesome combo...they inspired so much of what is around today....that's why many people who didn't know about them back in the day think that FF is just bland.....yes NOW they sound like every one else, because their style has been 'replicated'... imo they are in the top 5 most influential bands of the last 20 years...
I heard them back in the day and I just wasn't into them, I was into Pantera, RATM, and Tool alot back in the 90's and alot of underground shit. I heard FF nonstop for months when my buddy copped obsolete. I just don't like it, I agree with your explanation of sounding bland. I always just thought they were boring.
