I'm not mad. I just think you definitely out kicked your coverage on that one. Way too much credit it being given. Yes, I am not really a fan of Mastodon. I have 2 of their albums and I have just not been able to get into it. I can recognize that they are talented, but I find them boring and don't see why everyone goes so crazy over them.
To compare them to early Metallica is really putting your head way out over your ski's. I'm not going to start calling you a retard everything else that comes with people disagreeing with each other on here. Everyone has their own opinions and just because they don't always coincide, doesn't necessarily mean that one person is right and the other is wrong. But I hope you can realize this... The early Metallica albums were 2 or 3 of the most important albums in Metal History and that can't, and wouldn't be disputed by anyone. That's really all that needs to be said because Mastodon hasn't and never will be on that level, but that's fine because not many others will either.
Nah, I just think they've been incredibly consistent so far. I am aware that their albums have not and will not impact metal history like Metallica's first few did. However, I will argue that they've been the best metal band to come out of the last decade.
Metallica is one of my favorite bands. I do not hold Mastodon that highly. I do think they deserve credit for what they've been able to do though, which is release 4 good to great albums that show a natural evolution of their sound. It's just like what Metallica did from '84 to '89. I didn't intend for the comparison to be any deeper than comparing musical consistency and growth, so don't take it as any more than that.
