to me there is not much difference between sludge and groove. they both have southern rock influences with sludge just having more of a hradcore/punk influence. there really isnt that much of a difference at all. i'm sure all the sludge bands you like could also be considered groove. but either way you want to word it or argue it, sludge still evolved from southern rock.

There's definitely a differnce between Groove and Sludge. Are you implying that bands like Machine Head and Lamb of God are Sludge, and bands like Kylesa and Baroness are Groove?
no, to me LoG and Macine Head are jus straight up metal. and I think some of Kylesa and Baroness of course could definatly be considered in a groove metal category, but both of those bands are so diverse, they are in alot of different categorys and play alot of different styles of music. Like i dont see much of a hardcore/punk influence in Kylsea, but as sludge is defined, hardcore/punk is a big influence on the genre. So there is a fine line, but yes, I think they do play some groove metal. and I in now way at all think LoG and MH is groove metal. bands like Down, Gorjira, Throwdown are groove metal to me, whereas MH and LoG are just metal to me. groove metal has that southern soul sound, those bands dont sound that way to me.
the point being totally overlooked here, sludge also is evolved from southern rock. how can you hate southern rock when bands you love are 100% influenced by that stuff. I dont like 80's power balads either, but theres a difference between that and southern rock.
Well firstly, Sludge is mainly a mix between Doom and Hardcore/Punk. There's definitely a Southern Rock influence, but Doom and Hardcore bands play more of an influence.
And also, just because the bands I like take influence from a certain band/genre, doesn't mean I should/have to like it.
not saying you have to like it, but you said you hated it. If you listen to Crowbar, you definately can hear the southern influence in that, eyehategod, acid bath, carnivore, CoC, Bongzilla, Weedeater, Melvins, all these bands have a strong southern rock influence. I just cant see how you can hate a genre that pretty much created alot of your favorite bands.
