i've been trying to continue to expand my metal tastes, and now im trying to get into more gothic and doom metal. to give you an idea of what im liking so far, gothic metal: Poisonblack and Closed Casket (i dont know if anyone has heard of 'em but they have a similar style to poisonblack). i dont like operatic style vocals (doesn't matter if its a guy or a girl singing, i just dont like that stuff). Epica isn't completely terrible cause they do have some growls in their songs. as for doom metal: Place of Skulls and Novembers Doom. and actually, while we're at it, any good black metal band suggestions? no satanic or anti-christian bands please. usually i dont care what people sing about, cause i like marilyn manson and other bands that say negative things about religion but some bands just cross a line that i dont want any part of (church burners etc.).

edit:
looking at them on MA they're listed as Gothic Doom. might be exactly what you're looking for.
Stay away from their first album it is a blues rock album. Not bad, but not what you are looking for.

Doom, on the other hand, I can help out with.
Triptykon - My pick for best album of the year last year (and quite possibly my favorite album ever). They DO have some Satanic elements, namely in Goetia (the first track), but they are an EXCELLENT doom metal band.
Cult of Luna - Doom/sludge
High on Fire - Doom/stoner (even though you probably already listen to them). Also, check out Matt's original band, Sleep. They are MUCH more doom.
Swallow The Sun
My Dying Bride
Unearthly Trance - Satanic-ish, but an awesome band anyway. Plus, you can't always make out the lyrics. Check out their latest album, "V"
Agalloch
Candlemass
Antestor, Agalloch, Xerbittert, Mirrorthrone, Bishop of Hexen, Immortal, Mayhem, Venom, Vinterriket, Apostasy, Deafest, Blutklinge, Ars Diavoli, Blut Aus Nord, Borgne, Burzum, Darkthrone, Elffor, Hellveto, Little Dead Bertha, Lustre, Marduk, Nocturnal Depression, Ragnarok, Sycronomica
Silent Stream of Godless Elegy- Doom folk
Finntroll - Blackened Folk
Assesor, Skeletonwitch - blackened thrash
Sleep
Electric Wizard
Goatsnake
Black Cobra
Om
Acid King
Batillus
Kyuss
St. Vitus
Pagan Altar
Gothic usually means they have soprano vocals..... it's an acquired taste (without a doubt). but a good juxtaposition in the end product. Usually you have bands like Epica getting bunched in with the whole gothic scene.... but just having a female lead singer doesn't cut it.(IMO)
