yeah... they had a ceremony and all, it was in Carolina all the Flyers wore number 17 during the pregame skate to tribute his time in Philly, and Brindamour praised Laviolette for his years as the coach when carolina won the cup... Rod was always the man, i was happy when he won the stanley cup!
ma, Philly had some epic games last year, we had the Flyers 0-3 comeback, the Phillies Halladay no-hitter, and the Eagles miracle at the meadowlands...
now this year we need the cup, followed by a playoff series win by the sixers, then another world series title, and andy reid finally runnning the ball to the Eagles 1st lombardi trophy \m/
Helmets weren't made mandatory in the NHL until 1979.
Not technically.. I know that because half of the guys on the Islanders cup teams never wore helmets. 79 they were made mandatory for players entering the league, but they let players who were already in the league continue to not wear helmets. The last player to not wear a helmet was Craig MacTavish in 1997 when he finally retired.
Islanders absolutely owned the Kings tonight. 3-0 shutout win. Al Montoya with a shutout in his first start as an Islander. Matt Moulson nets 2 beauties. Frans Nielsen with his 5th shorthanded goal on the season. That leads the league.
