Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs Takanori Gomi Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs Stefan Struve Lightweight bout: Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver Middleweight bout: Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera
While most Americans dreaded hearing their Monday morning alarm clocks, newly-crowned UFC interim heavyweight champ Shane Carwin couldn’t wait to head to the office this week … where he will resume his post as an engineer. Instead of whooping it up or going on a worldwide promotional tour after capturing his first major title, it was just another Manic Monday for Carwin, as he took his gold belt directly to his cubicle. “Today is just another Monday. I am here at work catching up on some new projects and thinking about training later,” Carwin stated on his official blog. “It may seem odd, but work is a great escape for me. “Everyone here treats me like Shane, and while they are aware of what happened and very proud of me, we all have a job to do and they depend on me as much if not more then I do them.” Although he annihilated former two-time champ Frank Mir at UFC 111 to collect his 12th straight 1stRound victory, Carwin is basically saying that his fellow engineers like him, however are glad to finally have him back to carry his weight. In essence, they have no idea who he REALLY is. If Carwin is able to defeat champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 116 this summer to unify the title, between sponsorships and an assured salary increase from the UFC, he could be on the cusp of becoming a multi-millionaire. All that might be true down the line, but for now Carwin is just enjoying the moment because he expects a new flavor of the month to emerge shortly at UFC 112. “Aside from the interview demands, I think life will be back to normal in a few days,” stated the humble champ. “I am looking forward to getting back in the gym and working on the game plan for Brock in July.
