My mother is going thru breast cancer surgery today. She listed me as the person to contact, if she is unable to respond. She told me last night that she wished to be DNR (do not rescitate - sp?) My question for the peanut gallery is could you make the decision to let you're parent die, if it was their wish to not get hooked up to a machine? She picked me over my older brother, because she thinks i can respect her wishes. Crap, i hope i never have to make the decision

John, I would most definitely respect my mother's wishes on the DNR. She's not wanting to saddle any of her kids with medical bills that will become astronomical if life support is a necessity. I hope you never have to be involved in that type of decision. It would be the toughest decision I ever had to make but I'd do it for my mom. Just think of all the things mom did for you and respect her wishes.

My mom has me listed at the one for to take control with her for a DNR (sorry for wording....its early). She believes I'm the only one she can trust to go through with her wishes, and she's right. I'm would do anything for my mom, even if that is not bringing her back to life. Plus, she'd be a bitchy vegetable.

i guess no worries...my mother is home from the surgery. i have no other update, just that they let her go home and she is sleeping. for now, i dont have to make that decision

My dad had DNR. If the person chooses it, do it. It's by no means easy, but is the right thing to do if they want it.
