Oh, Erik is Erik because of a number of things. Environment, age, lack of parental participation, lack of enough structure to make him confident in what he's doing, lack of emotional support. Erik needed a strong male role model in his life a long time before now so that he could mature into what a man is supposed to be. Maybe he'll find that role model somewhere, maybe not.
After reading most of the comments in this thread I've come to the conclusion that most of you are overthinking the article....it's just showing an interesting correlation between texting and drug abuse

I came in here pretty much to say this.
I think what they're stating is more like Wine said, the more social a kid is, the more likely they will be to get into trouble
I thought it used to be the more unsocial a kid is, the more likely they'll be to get in trouble. Fucking blows minds
Well, I don't necessarily equate having sex or using (some) drugs as "trouble." Sex, certainly not, but drugs can equate to trouble. What I mean to say is that being very social leads to outside influences that change their attitude towards sex or drugs.
