i dont think i could quit coffee with my bad sleeping habits and the design studios being in the morning (8 am)........ I NEED to be at my sharpest to do my best work.
This semester the my design studio is at night though... which has gotten to me a few sessions (i've nearly fallen out of my seat a few times, from dozing off)
I have a rendering class in the morning... which is chill, and about as intense as a box of kittens when compared to the design studios
In the mornings, coffee is my lifeforce. But lately I find myself drifting more when I drink it while trying to write papers/read homework. Coffee did help me a lot when I had to do work in the studio myself, that was also a night class. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to take any art classes here.
could be what cheeze says too... you're barely coming down from a caffeine rush before you blast your body into another one. (sugar included)
try adding some Cinnamon into your coffee... especially if you've got a coffee pot and can brew it yourself. (i've never tried added cinnamon to a cup of coffee that was already made.... but im sure it doesn't taste any different)
and there are some blood-sugar controlling aspects of Cinnamon that could help you out with yer problem. Also, i think i've read somewhere that its scent works just like an orange; in kick-starting your brain.
ive never had problems with coffee making me tired but im finding recently its getting harder for it to wake me up. you know how alcoholics have an eye opener to get rid of a hang over? i have to have a cup just to wake up out of my sleepy daze and think. if i dont have it. i literally cant focus on reading anything. the only reason i dont drink more is just cuz i dont have time lol
edit: i already quit energy drinks last year cuz i was drinking 2 a day and still falling asleep by 5pm.

i've drank it for the longest time too.... but its usually just in the morning.
I may have an afternoon/night cup after eating a meal or something.... but it's never really managed to affect my sleeping pattern in anyway.

Like when you have to much sugar you eventually crash cuz it wears off n feel all tired.
I went to the doctor for it a few years ago and he couldn't figure it out. He just put me on wacky meds.
I was just using sugar as an example.
