Why isn't Wilson mentioned for rookie of the year? Kid has been good all year and has more TDs and less INTs and could win his division next week if the 9ers lose today.

Agreed. Hey does anyone know what scenario the seahawks miss the playoffs? I mean say they lose their next two. Who has to win for them to miss the playoffs?
They need to lose their remaining two in order to not make the playoffs.

I realize they need to lose two to not make the playoffs.... but if that happens, who has to win to take their place?

So after a little more investigating... it seems like if seattle wins 1 of their final games, they are in no matter what.

Also... Seems highly unlikely that both Dallas and Washington Redskins both make it. One or the other.

Seems highly unlikely that Chicago makes it. Same with Minnesota but I like their chances more than I do the bears.

So if I had to guess I say Seattle makes it, Redskins and Vikings.

    SATAN said:

a snippet from an article on espn about the packers:

"At the moment, the Packers are the conference's third seed. When you look at the Atlanta Falcons (No. 1) and the San Francisco 49ers (No. 2), do you see a team fundamentally better than the Packers? I don't, and some of the Packers' most important figures are coming around to the same conclusion. (Update: That paragraph was written before the 49ers went to Gillette Stadium and beat the New England Patriots on Sunday night. Yeesh.) "

like i've said before, this year has been frustrating as hell. the mainstream sports media has trashed or dismissed the falcons every step of the way. it doesn't matter if we pick off peyton manning 3 times, drew brees 5 times or completely shut down the giants, we still get treated like an also-ran. the worst part is that they've kinda manipulated the fanbase down here into believing it. listening to talk radio last week, every caller was planning the falcon's funeral. i hate this fucking city. i mean, there are a *lot* of transplants here that fuck us up and make us look worse because they show up at the games and root against the falcons, but to allow media to extinguish your enthusiasm for your team is complete bullshit. i know maybe 3 people that are really gung-ho about the falcons. it makes my fuckin' head hurt.

    >:D<

To be fair, both of the teams mentioned in the article have proven they can make a playoff run recently.

actually nevermind my last comment. I'd really like someone to post a good summary on all the potential NFC playoff implications that includes the Seahawks.

Sports Illustrated estimated that 78 percent of NFL players are bankrupt or facing serious financial stress within two years of ending their playing careers and that 60 percent of NBA players are broke within five years of retiring from the game. A starting lineup of financial-distress examples could include Terrell Owens, Lawrence Taylor, Michael Vick, Deuce McAllister and Bernie Kosar in football, and Allen Iverson, Scottie Pippen, Latrell Sprewell and Antoine Walker in basketball.

Okay... So as far as I can tell Seattle holds the tie breaker win over

Minnesota, Dallas, and Chicago due to beating these three teams during the regular season. They would lose to the Giants, and Redskins due to having a lessor division record.

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM OR AMONG DIVISION WINNERS
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.
    1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
    2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.

    Two Clubs
    1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
    2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
    3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
    4. Strength of victory.
    5. Strength of schedule.
    6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
    7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
    8. Best net points in conference games.
    9. Best net points in all games.
    10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
    11. Coin toss.

    Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after one or more clubs are eliminated during any step, tie-breaker re-starts at Step One of two-club format. If three clubs remain tied after a fourth club is eliminated during any step, tie-breaker re-starts at Step One of three-club format.)
    1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
    2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
    3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
    4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
    5. Strength of victory.
    6. Strength of schedule.
    7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
    8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
    9. Best net points in conference games.
    10. Best net points in all games.
    11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
    12. Coin toss

Does anyone have a good link for this shit? Playing around with yahoo's playoff scenario generator, it appears that-

    1. Seattle is in if they win 1 game no matter what.
    2. If Giants win out they are in no matter what.
    3. If dallas and redskins win next week, then winner of dallas/redskins game is in no matter what.
    4. If Giants/Dallas/redskins lose 1 game and Minnesota wins out then the vikings are in.

You can have every draft pick from 5-10 and it won't get you anywhere at this rate. Some bad coaching up in Detroit these days.

I don't believe the coaching staff will stay the same next year. I do expect Schwartz to be the head coach.

Problems that I see stopping the Lions from being a contender...

    1. Lack of defensive game planning
    2. Matthew Stafford's coaches, whoever they are. His playbook know-how, his mechanics, all wrong.
    3. Talent.

Need coaches to develop those three. It's a shame that Greg Schiano isn't on the market this year, he's just what they need.
