It's cuz tv goes with pretty boy or goofy guy ex football players and coaches and neither are usually very bright. Gruden is about as good as it gets

Gruden knows his shit but damn he gets overbearing praising everybody left and right. McDonough is great on PBP. I generally like Tirico too.

I like Gruden because he's enthusiastic, especially about offense, and he has moments where he can be really funny

Yeah I think he's a net positive. Don't really care for ESPN's presentation of Monday Night Football compared to how the other networks do it. During the Lions/Cowboys game there was a colossal fuckup with the camera during one of the Lions' field goal attempts and in general their graphics are just ugly.
