Slay isn't an impact player at this point in his career, however. He's good, but his potential and hype have people way too excited about him. He could certainly have a Norman like season one of these years, though.
Slay played at an elite level after the first five weeks of the season. That's nearly as long as Norman's been playing at an elite level (one full season). He's easily a top 10 corner as far as I'm concerned.
Wine said: I guess we're in different positions with Riddick. That's fair. Just consider him a role player at best, and not an essential member of that team.
Not saying he's essential, but he's a weapon when used properly. He's a tough cover when used right. At this point, the more reliable receivers we have, the better.
Regardless, neither the offensive or defensive units have a top quality "thing." I think you're right that they have an opportunity for better coaching, but I guess I'm trying to distinguish them from teams that have a thing. The Jaguars with the top flight receiving corps, the Vikings with AP, the Rams with Gurley/DL, the Jets with their DL. Even lower quality teams still have excellent units. I'm not sure the Lions do.
You can be a good team without having a "top-quality thing." Stafford's a pretty good quarterback, give him a good offensive line and a running game that isn't trash and he can win games. Ansah is good and getting better, rebuild the rest of the line and see what happens. Teryl Austin is still the defensive coordinator there and they seem to have figured it out on offense after Lombardi was canned.
I'm not saying they're going to win the division, but it's not hopeless over here.
I don't understand any enthusiasm for Detroit's defense
2nd ranked defense in 2014 that was ravaged by injury last year, potential star at defensive end, solid linebackers between Levy and Whitehead, corner who played at an all-pro level for most of last season in Slay, and a defensive coordinator who's proven he knows what he's doing. What am I missing?
Why are they trying to make an actual story out of tweets Dak Prescott made about Tony Romo in 2012? Dude was a cowboys fan before he became one, we all say shit about our QB when they fuck up badly.
