President Obama said Friday that investigators discovered explosive materials in packages sent from Yemen and bound for synagogues in Chicago, and called the suspected plot "a credible terrorist threat against our country."
The U.S. "is taking this threat very seriously," Obama said in the White House press briefing room.
"We will continue to pursue additional protective measures," Obama said, as well as any "connection to additional terrorist plotting."

Obama also praised the "extraordinary skill and resolve" of federal investigators.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the president was alerted to the possible plot at 10:35 Thursday night, and has received updates in the hours since. Agencies throughout the government are involved in the investigation.
"This is an active investigation," Gibbs said.
It unfolds as Obama prepares for a weekend of campaigning leading into Tuesday's election, starting Friday night in Charlottesville, Va., and including Saturday stops in Philadelphia and Chicago.
Gibbs said the president has no plans to change his schedule, and "there's no cause for Americans to change their schedule."
White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan said two packages with explosive materials have been identified, and "they have been isolated."
Brennan said he did not know whether this was an attempted attack, or a dry run for a future attack. He also said he did not know whether the al-Qaeda terrorist group based in Yemen was involved, but he noted that it has been "open in its venom for the United States."
"We are going to get the bottom of this plot," Brennan said.

This further interested me because a few days ago one of my friends there that is now a supervisor said that they were giving a Muslim lady a verbal warning for not doing something right. She went on a tirade calling everyone " godless liars" and such. She threw a fit because she thought she was being fired but they weren't going to fire her. They ended up firing her because she did all this crazy shit. She then said that it was racism and went and got the cops. Cops came back and got all the info and pretty much told her to go hole she has no case.
Turns out she would spend her break time going to other employees trying to convert them and recruit them to the Muslim faith.
