I'm so tuned out of sequel remakes that I barely paid attention to any news about that one
Should I watch it?
It was decent. Take the story of Evil Dead 1, change a few things (female lead, a few story changes/twists) take out most of the humor and campiness, and make it a gorefest. It doesnt hold a candle to the originals, but it was worth a watch.
There's one scene near the end alone that makes it worth watching imo.
That's not a huge surprise. None if those movies are particularly profitable. It's niche stuff. It seems a little that Raimi couldn't get that funded himself. I guess his clout isn't what it was 10 years ago
I like both films equally for what they are. The onld was was campy as shit, funny, and did shit that was out of the box at the time. Complete with homemade shit for shooting angles. The new one wasn't campy, gore everywhere, gallons of blood, and did a very good job paying homage to the original imo.
Considering I was expecting a shitfest going into it, I was very pleasantly surprised
IMO the entire reason Evil Dead stuck out was because of the oddball humor. The idea of it being serious and gory made me lose interest. I'm really turned off by the current horror climate. Especially with these remakes because you can't help but compare them to the originals. Everything is over the top realism and hard horror. They've taken humor out completely. I was bored to years with the Nightmare reboot. Freddy not cracking black humor jokes just isn't Freddy. The older movies tailored the kill scenes to the victim and used surrealism to make the dream sequences more uneasy. The new one it was just a bunch of kids having the same dream with a stiff Freddy. Fuck that
I feel the same way about the horror game genre. Real atmosphere, suspense, and a feeling of helplessness have been replaced with jump scares and loud noises.
I think the key distinction here is that the Evil Dead remake was done with the blessing/involvement of both Raimi and Campbell. It was intended to stray from the original trilogy.
Compared to Nightmare where a bunch of suits probably gave 0 fucks what Wes Craven wanted and let Michael Bay produce it.
Yeah, I wasn't much of a fan of the new Freddy movie. I tried to appreciate it for what it was though. But Robert Englund is the only Freddy worth a shit and he's done with that endeavor, so that's the end of that.

The original idea was that they'd make Evil Dead (remake) 2, and Army of Darkness 2, and then a third movie crossing the two world over.
Then they decided to just do a Bruce centered show.
Should I watch it?
Its good. Enjoyable and a good omage the original. Raimi was involved. Not as good as the original though.
