This came from a couple Belmont students who have worked with Rocketown:
I guess in Tennessee its legal and fair to fire people for no reason. Giving an explanation is optional. When they fired the guy a couple weeks ago, they apparently stated the reason for the pro same-sex marriage shirt he was wearing. Behind the scenes he was costing the company a lot of money due to failed booking jobs. Why they decided to use the shirt as the reason is uncertain.
With the Volumes attack. I guess their singer was getting rowdy and causing fights with people in the crowd. Two body guards (one who is an athiest, and the other who is a member of A Plea For Purging) escorted him out of the venue. The singer then spat on the promoter and his assistant (one of the Belmont students who was discussing this with me - also an athiest and pro same-sex marriage). The tweets about him getting jumped for dedicating a song to a gay friend were done out of anger for being escorted out. He was never attacked at all, and if he was restrained by the security it was because he was drunk and violent, not because he dedicated a song to his gay friend.
Also it might be notable to mention that the majority of Rocketown employees actually aren't overtly Christian nor are anti-gay. Its a couple higher ups who are making the venue as a whole look bad.
In Tennessee you cannot serve alcohol at all ages shows. I guess its law. So any venue that serves alcohol is automatically 18+. That cuts out a large market for bands. So most venues and bookers are not willing to risk losing a lot of money if they can't draw a large enough crowd of only 18+ shows.
Sidenote: Interestingly enough Whitechapel basically can't play shows in their hometown anymore. They have been banned from Rocketown, and other metal venues won't book them because the understand much of their audience is younger than 18.

A lot of the underneath crap involving Rocketown was explained.
Also explained was why a lot of mid-high level tours/bands NEVER come through the area. There needs to be some changes around here.
