Urbana man arrested on child porn charges

URBANA – A 54-year-old Urbana man has been arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography in that city.

Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said William M. McDonald, of the 900 block of Wabash Avenue, was arrested at his home Tuesday after police served a search warrant and seized his computer.

Morgan said investigator Tim McNaught, the department's school resource officer, is a member of an attorney general's task force on child pornography. In that role, he has been investigating McDonald for a couple of months.

Morgan was reticent to share the method by which police uncover potential suspects but said police "have access to programs that help them identify where child porn is."

"People would be surprised at how accessible it is if you know where to look and how many people are accessing it," Morgan said.

Morgan said McNaught found that McDonald was allegedly accessing movies of children as young as 3 to 6 years old engaging in sexual acts with adults, other children and animals. Morgan said police do not believe there are any local victims but said they have more investigative work to do with computer equipment and pornographic images involving children that were taken from McDonald's home.

McDonald is expected to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon on Class X felony charges, which carry penalties ranging from six to 30 years upon conviction and fines ranging from $2,000 to $100,000.

i mean as long as he watched a didnt foce kids to do this he shouldnt get life, maybe an insane asylum though cuz watching 3 yr old have sex with animals could be the most disturbing things i ever heard......but half u people have seen that snuff film on the computer, should they lock u up in jail for murder?

i dont like to make excuses but maybe he was abused a young child and it fucked him up. idk i dont think people are naturally this way, something usually fucks them up to get them to this point... i think he needs years and years of treatment obv not as a free man first but thats just me...

My Mom used to be a parole/probation officer, and she said that a lot of male sex offenders were abused when they were children.

I think killing him as the arresting officer would be bad, but you know that one big thing in criminals is the respect for children. This guy will have a terrible existence in prison, just like he should. I think prison yard justice could be a beneficial thing in this situation.

Some prisons do, but the molesters and rapists still get shanked/killed, and often. If his fellow prisoners become aware of what this guy did he won't last too long.

Most prisons don't have the sort of money to have a "rapist/child molester wing." and even if they did, they certainly wouldn't have separate yards for them.

Or at least that's what the Shawshank Redemption taught me.

The newer ones do cause some do gooder groups want to protect their rights. Seems like a cruel joke on the rest of society don't it?
