Question for the forum if you guys can shed some light or share your experiences with this if you have done it, that would be great:
My band is going in to record our demo sometime in July. We were talking about how much materiel we wanted on it a while ago and it was unanimously agreed that five songs would do. The other day at band practice we were talking more about it since recording is coming up and I said something along the lines of "So we have our four originals, what cover are we doing?" When our vocalist and guitarist said that we should do five original songs and no covers. Drummer and I think four originals and one cover. What do you guy think? Is it wise to put a cover on a DEBUT release from an unknown band? Or should we just put our original materiel on it? If you have recorded something, what did you guys do?
What kind of music? What kind of cover? Because honestly covers are fucking stupid imo unless it's some shit like nobody knows about. Inb4 hipster, we don't need another metal band covering some classic metal band's deep cut
Personally I love covers but you need permish to do that..
This. If anything maybe just record a cover separate and put it up online? If you try to sell it with the rest of the EP you can get into deep shit unless you get permission first.
It depends on what your trying to accomish.. If the band is just for fun through some covers on who cares.. If your le trying to be a real band and make something out of it I prob would leave it off

Thanks guys. Ya'll shed some light onto it. And our shit is kind metal/grunge sounding (or at least thats what we've been told.) After we record it, I'll post a song or two if you guys are interested. We're practicing tomorrow and we'll talk. And yeah if we were to include a cover it would have been a moderately known song. The covers we had in the works were Blind by Korn, Cheap Beer by Fidlar and a song called Quest to be the Victor by this local band that used to play Chicago. @BASED bought up an excellent point though. Like who doesn't know fucking Blind? After talking to you guys, I'm liking the idea of all original shit more so thank you! Much appreciated.
