But when I think of pirate metal, I guess I'm usually thinking of stuff like either Amon Amarth or later Bathory, which are more pirate themed than sounding. I used to know a musician that was this old jam band type that bounced and moved into a barn in North Carolina. Old pirate music and sea shanties were an obsession of his and the shit he would play me was more subdued and elementary. They weren't all of one stripe

Nah. If we were talking Swashbuckle, I'd def agree. They're just death/thrash while dressed like pirates. Alestorm actually include accordion, and flute, and trumpet, and folk melodies. They're not the EXACT same as a sea shanty. But its influenced and included in their metal.
But you said it's alternating so that means AAL is headlining. I was just talking to my dad's friend on Saturday and saying I needed to get up to his place again.
