As of now, I am not returning to College Station in the fall for school. I was planning on doing a year of community college or something to save money and hopefully transfer out of state, but now I'm feeling made the wrong choice.
TOUR DATES BLACK SABBATH Enlist ANDREW W.K. Top Open Their US Tour With A DJ Set Posted by RobInjection on June 27, 2013
Everybody's favorite party animal, Andrew WK just landed the greatest gig ever in the history of heavy metal. He gets to go around the country with the forefathers of heavy metal, Black Sabbath and he doesn't even have to worry about his gear working, or guitarists or drummers, because he's going to be opening for Sabbath…with a DJ set!
Andrew couldn't be more excited:
"I’m just shocked. It’s just the most incredible dream come true! This is the greatest honor I could be given. I remember when the phone rang and I first heard that Black Sabbath wanted me to be their exclusive opening act. I was really in a state of disbelief – almost sick with amazement and excitement. It took about 3 days until I fully mastered the reality of this opportunity and realized it was really going to happen. Black Sabbath’s music changed my life from the first time I heard it, and this tour will change my life all over again. I couldn’t be more thankful or humbled by this one-in-a-billion miracle. Can this really be real!? What kind of adventure will this be!?"
I have to say, this is a bit of a disappointment in terms of openers. Imagine how cool it would be if Sabbath took out a modern stoner metal band to open for them, something like Mastodon (busy), High on Fire (available), Clutch or The Sword (coincidentally touring together this summer) would've been awesome. Then again, maybe they tried and nobody was available.
Ultimately though, Sabbath fans are going to be there for Sabbath so perhaps a quick DJ set will just loosen them up for the main event. Get the full routing for the tour here.
The shows I've seen where there was a dj set to open, the sets were usually pretty short and the headliner just played longer. I wouldn't have a problem with a 2 hour Sabbath set, but they seem a little old for that type of endurance
So I've decided that for my 3rd mixtape, after Lone Star, that Im'ma completely self produce it, or at least most of it, maybe some co-production thrown in there. Due to this, the 3rd one will come out a lot longer after Lone Star as compared to the time between The Pilot and Lone Star. Reason being is I'm still not a good enough producer. So what Im'ma do is shoot for at least 2-3 beats a week. Most won't even be used, most will prolly be garbage for a while, and most won't even be heard by anyone but me, but it's all simply for practice and to get better. Im'ma shuffle between using Reason and FL to decide which one I'm gonna ultimately use.
My inspiration was Yeezus. I realized that what makes Kanye so amazing, and especially that album, isn't his rapping. He's a dope Rapper, but that alone isn't why his Music is seen as genius. There's many Rappers that as far as just raw spitting, lyricism, flow, etc. rap circles around him. Ab-Soul shits on everybody and anybody in the game right now as far that's concerned. But what makes Yeezy great is that he's overall the best complete ARTIST in Hip Hop. His production is just fucking nuts, and he makes the best complete product in Hip Hop, album after album, mostly by himself. That's why all his songs have such great melodies, flows, catchiness, because he builds it all from the ground up, rather than writing to an already produced beat that someone else made. He's a Producer first, Rapper second. And writing to the beat couldn't be easier when from the very conception of the beat, you knew how you wanted the track to sound, instrumental, lyrically, vocally, etc.
It'll be a lot more efficient for me, because I feel that at this point, I've grown into myself and now know the general sound I want to portray. If any of y'all take the time to listen to Lone Star, you'll see that this time around, while still experimental, it follows a more fluid sound all the way through, rather than being all over the place like The Pilot. So now, finding my niche and the sound I'm going for, obviously the best way to keep producing that sound is making the exact kind of instrumentals I need by myself, rather than searching all over the Internet for beats from countless producers until I find something that meets my "requirements", if you will.
he has pretty decent taste as a dj. i heard a guest dj set he did on satellite radio and i was impressed. donald tardy from obituary was his drummer on the first album and he's done splits with wolf eyes, so he's got roots in a music much more abrasive than his
