That's not a problem with us now is it!
What I do, is go to metal-archives and ask on the rec forums there, the people on there aren't always the kindest, but you usually get some awesome recs. Don't go in there being like "I want death metal," You've got to describe what you're looking for. Ignore the bands that you have heard of and just pay attention to ones you haven't.
I have a hard time describing death metal though. I can't really say fast drums and goodguitar because that's what most death metal has anyway Idk what to say really......

Random downloading has never made me find a band that was worth the effort.

Then say a few bands that you'd like your recommendations to be similar to. For instance, I'd just go into the death metal help thread and say "I'm looking for something in the vein of _____________ (insert band name here), preferably with low gutturals."

you dont need to random download..... but random check their myspace is a start. (and it really isnt random when every post is tagged with one or more genres and countries)
