Once you resign to this attitude, it does become stale. However, talent is out there in ridiculous quantities. The only drop off I have found (to going really underground) is production, and I'm a bit picky with the production values of your music.
If you want shit I don't know about, I'd make an account on metalarchives and go to the recommendation central there, I've gotten some killer stuff from there.
If you think a band is automatically gonna be good just based on where they come from you a damned fool. There are a lot of shitty bands from Germany too. He wants thrash, there is a ton of bands from around the globe. "Good" is all opinion based, and the only way to find the bands you like is to explore everything you can instead of pigeon holing your music selection based on labels or locations.
Somebody that DOES explore everything they can, as far as its Metal, would know that German thrash bands have their own characteristics and styles; which differ from the American bands.
and they're Styles that easily recognizable....so i dont think it's pigeonholing if its a proper differentiation.
Yea there are crappy German bands.... but in General German Thrash > not-German thrash.
That statement is opinion mixed with fail. Its like saying in general all women drive like shit or in general all black people steal. Your opinion may be German thrash is the best but that doesn't make it a fact. I'd argue for the Bay Area thrash being the best. The word thrash itself instantly brings to mind 4 bands, none of them being from Germany. If Erik wants to explore more thrash bands, he should look at many different styles of thrash, not just the German flavor.
