Well, the Activity Panel would be fine, if it didn't have notifications of every time someone posts in one of your threads, filling up pages of notifications. I think if it's possible, the participated discussions panel would be much easier.
Hi Everyone - I work at VanillaForums.com, and we're working on getting most of the things you are looking for dialed in. For example, we've got the search functionality all fixed up and will be pushing it live within the next week.
The activities are still a pretty new feature, and we're working on improvements. We've got a whole community of open-source developers working on this stuff over at http://vanillaforums.org, so if you feel that certain features are super important (ie. participated discussions, who's online, etc) send Mike over there to tell us about it!
There are some other cool features on here that you might not know about. For example, if you mention someone with an @ before their name, they'll get notified about it. Of course you have preferences on your profile so you can get emailed when people mention you, too. So, I could mention mike with @Mike, and he'll get a notification in his profile and an email in his inbox (if he has his preferences set to get email notifications).
We're always working on new stuff to make forums better. It will just take some time before everything is there.

I'd Like to have pages though instead of one huge blog
