New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman isn't exactly having the ideal offseason. It definitely isn't what he envisioned for his pitching staff in 2011. Actually, its been downright awful, as nothing has fallen into place. Lets take a quick look at the piss poor pitching staff/ offseason thus far:
Plan A- Cliff Lee Plan B- Trade for "King" Felix Hernandez Plan C- Re-sign Andy Pettitte before he retires Plan D- Mark Prior, Freddy Garcia, Bartolo Colon, Sergio Mitre, and Ivan Nova
Ok, so Plan D it is. Seems pretty depressing if you are a Yankees fan. The only sure thing starters the Yankees have are CC Sabathia and Phil Hughes. AJ Burnett is coming off of an awful season and can hardly be counted upon for much, but lets face it, the Yanks NEED him to have a big year. As of right now, this staff is pretty terrible, and I'd be worried if I was a Yankee fan.
Right-hander Chad Durbin reportedly has offers. But after making the playoffs three straight years with the Phillies, Durbin wants to continue playing for a competitive team. His offers thus far are from projected non-contenders, according to major league sources. Durbin, 33, is holding out for a club with a better chance to reach the postseason, and two or three such teams are showing interest, sources say. The Rays are the most notable contender still looking for bullpen help, but their interest in Durbin is not known. The Marlins, Brewers and Twins are among the other contenders that may want to add another reliever.
IMO durbin is horrible, everytime he took the mound, i but my nails off in nervousness. it doesnt cost much for his services the phillies gave him a couple bucks to play the last 3 years, if he was anygood, the phils would have signed him again...
As the Michael Young situation unfolded in Texas, an NL East power took a closer look at the infielder. The Philadelphia Phillies recently contacted the Texas Rangers to express an interest in Young, three Major League Baseball sources confirmed to ESPN.com. But the trade talks failed to yield much common ground, and discussions between the clubs are no longer active. One source said the discussions were "brief" and amounted essentially to "tire kicking" on the part of the Phillies. The Rangers are currently fielding offers for Young, who has asked to be traded in the midst of a rift with the team's front office.
